DAY TWO

How do you respond to the idea that forgiveness is a requirement for Christians?

[Your Response Here]

In what ways does unforgiveness keep you chained to your past?

[Your Response Here]

Are you ready to forgive someone? If so, write a letter to that person that you will not send. This is just for you. Write out what the offense was, without either minimizing it or overdramatizing it. Tell how it has affected you. Then write that you forgive the person and let go of all desire that he or she pay for what was done.

This is the crucial part of forgiveness: we let God be responsible for punishment and we let go of our desire to see to it that punishment happens.

Not yet ready to forgive? Write a letter to God explaining the offense and expressing your emotions over it. Be honest about your anger and other feelings. Then tell God what’s keeping you from forgiving. Ask Him to help you to become willing to forgive.

Ask God to help you take a step closer to forgiving. Thank Him that He has forgiven all of your faults, including unforgiveness.

If there’s nobody in your life whom you haven’t forgiven, celebrate! Write a letter to God expressing gratitude for the ways you’ve been forgiven and the ways He’s helped you to forgive.
